WWE from the Mom Perspective:

On Sunday night over dinner, our 9-year boy and our 6-year girl told us they had voted for Kelly Kelly as a favorite for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. “Who is she we asked?” “She is a WWE Diva who will win the butt kicker category” emphatically stated our daughter. I checked out the voting on-line and Kelly Kelly is running against Jessica Alba, Tom Cruise and Taylor Lautner.  What a great female empowerment choice by our daughter!  We decided to explore how other moms feel about the WWE and learned some great insights:

  • WWE/WWF has nostalgia from our childhood:

Growing up in TN, we remember the teen boys just loved to watch wrestling for kicks. All the wrestlers wore costumes and it was all blood and guts.  We sat on the couch with our brothers, friends and boyfriends, but never dared to admit we actually liked the wrestling.  So we kept our views in the closet but, now with social media, its time “to come out roaring like a mamma lioness”…

  • Watching WWE is a great way to bond with you teen and tween boys:

Our Teen and Tween boys love watching the WWE and playing Sony PS3 WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. We all know that playing video games with your children can be fun family entertainment and a special way to bond especially when they occasionally beat you. Family TV night is also another great way to grab some cuddle time when the teens are not looking.  One friend mentioned that her teenage son never talks to her anymore, but when she sat down with him to watch Monday Night Raw on the USA network, his face lit up and he started taking about wrestling non-stop.  While watching the show, the mom found the perfect opportunity to talk to her son about bullying, violence and a myriad of other important topics that are often hard to broach with your children. We are really looking forward to this Monday night as we have a long list of topics that need discussion.

  • WWE is now PG Family friendly entertainment:

One of our biggest issues as parents is figuring out family appropriate content. The oldest doesn’t want Disney anymore but we still have to play princesses with our little daughter.  Since our daughter told us she was voting for Kelly Kelly for the kid’s choice awards, we decided we need to explore WWE Entertainment. Our family will order the Pay Per View of the April 1st WrestleMania with John Cena vs. The Rock at 6:30pm EST. The Rock is one of our favorite actors as we have watched “The Game Plan” three million times as a family.

If you are lucky enough to live near Miami or need a fun spring break adventure, you can experience WWE live with WrestleMania Axxess, the biggest interactive fan event of the year.
